
Founder’s Experience
The founder, Reverend Patrice Joy, MA has provided personal growth opportunities in educational groups, corporate seminars and in-service teacher education since 1971. She was the first woman hired in territorial sales management for the Xerox Corporation and hostess of the TV Series entitled The Parent's Role in St Louis, Missouri. Her leadership skills have led her to the founding of six companies:

Her educational degrees from Antioch McGregor University are a Bachelor of Arts with a double major in Health and Wellness & Human Development and a Master of Arts in Community Change and Civic Leadership. She is a Certified Stress Management Instructor, Reiki Master, and Master Herbalist from Michigan Institute of Natural Health.
History of Seekers of Serenity (SOS) Nonprofit
Sisters of Safety (SOS) Nonprofit, the original group which became Seekers of Serenity Nonprofit began in 1992 on the West Coast to provide emotional guidance, childcare, and employment aide. The early programs sought to provide self-empowerment, emotional guidance, childrearing and employability skills to women in abusive relationships through monthly meetings, seminars, job placement and private consultation. Their multi-cultural events and intergenerational programs encouraged the importance of family roots and cultural heritage.
The organization was established as a voluntary, non-sectarian, nonprofit support group. In the summer of 1996, it was decided to move to Colorado and establish a national headquarters in the Rocky Mountains. In December of 1997, the 501C3 Federal tax-exempt status was awarded. SOS moved its base of operations to Ohio in April 2004 and changed the name to Seekers of Serenity Nonprofit. Through the purchase of twenty-six acres of wooded land, the organization set up a rural retreat center. near Bedford, KY.
Legal Form of Operation
The organization was established as a voluntary, nonsectarian, 501c3 in 1996 and relocated to Colorado in 1997and to Ohio in 2003. The mission grew to incorporate global issues in 2005, and the name was changed to Seekers of Serenity Nonprofit. This was founded as an equal opportunity organization based on tolerance and respect. SOS is a California based nonprofit operating with foreign nonprofit state status as a private foundation (PF) in Kentucky.

Sisters of Safety (SOS) Nonprofit is an equal opportunity organization based on tolerance and respect. Multi-cultural events are offered which are open to all economic and social groups. The Programs have no discrimination in regard to race, creed, religion, gender, sexual orientation, and physical and mental disabilities. The Board of Directors unanimously approved the letter of this policy in May 1998. This policy also applies to internal promotions, training, opportunities for advancement, termination and in relations with outside vendors, customers, contractors and the general public.
